What did Katie think of the Dubarry Galway?
When I first looked at buying a pair the price did put me off a bit. However, I bit the bullet and invested in a pair. My last pair lasted me 7 years and were worn on a daily basis. Paying that little bit extra for a good quality boot that lasts that amount of time is a no-brainer to me. Why buy a boot for half the price and have it only last a few seasons? I do make a point of looking after my boots because I want them to last, and like anything, if you don’t care for them, they will likely have a shorter lifespan. So I try to make sure I always clean my boots with proper leather conditioner once I’ve been out for a walk or out shooting. Some of my people who own Galways that have been used and abused. I have to say they look a lot older than they really are. My latest pair is now three years old and they still look in amazing condition. They are super easy to slip on and off. I also have a pair of Le Chameau’s which I sometimes find really difficult to get off and have to resort to using a boot jack. However, with my Dubarry’s, even when they have been worn all day, there has never been an issue getting out of them.
Dubarry have shared many photos of people even wearing them as their wedding shoes or with a dress on other formal occasions. Now I’m not sure if that is for me but I love the fact they are so versatile and not just a country boot but also fashion piece. I wear mine on a regular basis either into town, to the pub or outside at horse shows, shooting and taking the dogs for a walk. Photo Credit Dubarry.
I have worn mine all day on a regular basis and have never once had foot ache, been rubbed or even wanted to take them off. They are 100% waterproof and incredibly breathable. My pair of Le Chameau’s have a Neoprene lining and I find my feet can get too hot in them so I tend to only wear them during the winter. However, I can wear my Dubarry’s all year round without getting too hot or feeling uncomfortable.
When the weather gets colder they have enough room for me to put a thicker pair of socks on. They keep my feet nice and toasty. These incredibly versatile boots are basically suitable for every occasion… other than mucking out! As we all know horse urine is a leather killer and I love them way too much to do that to them! They also look the part for anyone showing in hand. I would strongly recommend investing in a pair. In fact, they look super smart with just about anything! I tend to vary in boot size and can be anywhere between a UK 6 and 7 depending on the brand. However I, and others I know, seem to find that the Dubarry Galways come up very true to size. Mine are the Standard Fit, which allow me enough room for a thicker sock when the weather gets colder.
I really cannot fault my pair of Dubarry Galways. They are not a cheap boot but you get what you pay for and as I say. If you take care of them they will last a long time (and there’s no better test than my 7 years of frequent wear!). They are like my old faithful friends. When it’s time to upgrade to a new pair I won’t want to let go! I would recommend these boots to anyone looking for a good quality country boot.
